Windows 10 version 1803 End of Service

In keeping with Microsoft’s Windows 10 lifecycle policy, Windows 10 Home & Pro version 1803 will reach end of service on November 12th 2019. Earlier versions of Windows 10 (1507 through 1709) are already end of service.

What does this mean for you?

Windows 10 1803 end of service means that Microsoft will no longer support this version of Windows. That means no more updates and no support if something goes wrong. If you have Windows 10 Home or Pro editions, and are on version 1803 or earlier then you should look at upgrading before November. The two current versions of Windows 10 are 1809 and 1903.

How do you tell what version of Windows 10 you currently have?

Simply go to your Start button, Settings, System, About. Your version of Windows 10 will be listed at the bottom of the About page under Windows Specifications.

How to upgrade to a newer version?

There are two main ways to upgrade your Windows 10 version:

  • Use Windows Update – Go to Settings, Update & Security, click on Windows Update, click Check for Updates, wait for the check to complete and then select “Feature Update to Windows 10 version 1903”, or
  • Visit the Windows 10 Download page and click the Update Now button to download the Update Assistant tool, and click Run. Follow the instructions in the tool to update to the latest version of Windows.

The Windows 10 version upgrade involves a fairly large download so make sure that you are on a good fast connection before you start. The upgrade process could take an hour or longer to complete, and will require a restart of your computer. So, don’t do this if you need your computer for something else!
